Adventures in Christian School

Our dear darling Bug started in K4 at a Christian private school in Late August.  Due to her birthday being in late September she misses the cutoff for public school and is destined to always be one of the oldest in her class.  So, we went the private school route with her to give her some greater classroom discipline.  And she is doing very well with the structure and atmosphere.  Granted, she comes home with some out there questions and some odd renditions of the bible stories. But it's all good.  Really.

Conversational excerpts:

Jess:  Mommy, can God see everything?
Me: Well, some people believe that God is everywhere and sees all that we do.
Jess:  That's kind of creepy.
Me: Ummm...yeah.
____

Jess:  Look mommy a cross.
Me:  Yes it is.
Jess: Jesus was born there.  On the cross.
Me: Okie Dokie.  Let's talk about Mangers, shall we?

____
Jess: You know mommy, Isaac didn't really die.  The angels saved him.
Me:  Saved him from what?
Jess:  From being sacrificed.  His daddy didn't kill him, even though God told him to.
Me: Oh,  Well that was good.
Jess: Mommy, we can't sacrifice Erica.
Me:  Good to know.  Why not?
Jess: Moooommmyyy...God doesn't want Erica. He wants a goat.  A white goat.
Me: I'll get right on that.
____

So we are having lots of fun and an interesting education. As an extra bonus, even though she doesn't have to wear a uniform until K5, she does have to wear a dress or a skirt everyday.  Just what every princess wants....an excuse for mommy to have find dresses.

Little miss "Bruiser", is now 21 months old and is getting a good set of chompers.  She went thru a bit of a biting phase.  Now she just sort of body checks the other kids.  She has taken to wrestling with Jess.  She usually wins just by jumping on top of her and sitting on her.  There may be a good 3 years between them, but it's only a 9 pound body difference.  But, the both laugh and have fun, so who am I to argue with that.  And they dance.  Lots of dancing, lots of singing.  The 26 verses of Old MacDonald's farm have been revived as a method to keep the baby happy.

Love them Madly.

Just Things

My little bug, is not so little anymore.  She started pre-k last week and seems to be doing very well.  Granted, she is a little bit ahead of what is being done in the class.  They are working on drawing straight lines and curved lines and following directions on coloring sheets.  She has done all that for awhile now in daycare.  While she was home with me over the summer she learned how to right her name.  But the class will catch up to that very quickly I'm sure.  The one thing she is expressing a displeasure with is taking naps.  She just doesn't like to nap.  But, she is at least keeping quiet and resting with the other children.

My piglet is finally gaining some teeth.  At 19 months old she's finally popping out numbers 5 and 6.  I hear it is fairly normal for some kids to start teething so late -- i just didn't expect it as Jess's teeth came in so early and fast.  She is toddling around like a big girl now.  Running and climbing and copying her big sister all of the time.  She is such a darling little girl, with a very even temperment.  I'm not sure I could have had any more differences between the two.  Erica is starting to talk now as well.  I can already see the language explosion starting to take place.  Granted, "daddy","doggy" and "guy" al seem to sound the same and refer to the same thing. It will come.

Over the summer we visted down in Texas for a couple weeks. We had a visit from Grandma Helen as well as Uncle Robin,Aunt Tammy and cousins Matthew, Ian, and Jeff. We also spent a week down in Hilton Head, where Jess really started learning how to dog paddle well. It was a good summer overall.  I just wish that I had sat down and writen about it all then.

Sometimes I wonder...

What do a stuffed baby tiger, a plastic spoon, a pair of dress up shoes, a magic wand, a mermaid Barbie, and a toy feeding dish have in common? Hell if I know, but I found them all in my bed this morning.

Valentine's Day

I went and got pics taken for Valentine's day. We made a collage for David to hang either in the office or at home. Middle pic has all three of us and a pic of each baby girl on either side. All of us in pink because, as Jessica says ONLY girls wear pink.

Toddler Again

My dearest little baby. My last little baby. She is no longer a baby. She is a toddler. My beautiful little Chonk turned one January 19th. She's walking all over the place. She drinks from sippy cups and eats real people food. I have no idea where the las year has gone. It all seems like such a haze now, but while it was happening every day seemed liked an eternity. But now, my baby raising days are gone. And we get to enter the touchy, tasting, grabbing age again.

I miss them both already. These days truly are fleeting.

Sound Off

Very very rarely have i ever used this site to sound off about any current topic in the news or media.

I have just got to say this one time though, that Dr. Ph*l has totally crossed the line of any type of respectable healer. He is absolutely no better than the vultures in the tabloids and is only hoping to grab some fame himself. Shame shame on him. He does for therapists what tv dramas do for lawyers and doctors -- invalidates, and gives media fodder in the form of half truths a flat out falsehoods.

I hope to high heavens that anything he says regarding Br**ney Sp**rs comes back to haunt him in some sort of slander or libel. The only problem i have with that is that both he and she would continue to make headlines.

Just simply thouroughly disgusted by his transparent motives and the harm he does in the name of making a buck.

Rant done.

Christmas Musings

Okay, so we made the drive down to Texas in one night. Jessica is awake in the middle of the night and decides she wants to talk. Here's part of that conversation:

Jess: Mommy I want to talk about Santa Claus.
Me: Okay. What about Santa Claus?
Jess: Santa Claus and Mrs. claus are brother and sister.
Me: REally? How do you know?
Jess: They look alike and they are the mommy and daddy of all the elves.
Me: Oh. I didn't know that.
Jess: Why does Mrs Claus not go with Santa Claus?
Me: Go where?
Jess: To give away the toys.
Me: Um.. because she has to stay home and give Santa Claus directions when he gets lost.
Jess: oh. how come he gets lost?
Me: Well, there are lots of little boys and girls to see and sometimes he needs help going form house to house.
Jess: But not the bad boys and girls.
Me. Right, not them.
Jess: If there are more bad boys and girls, can i get more presents?
Me: I don't think it works that way.
Jess: Does santa Clause give all the elves the toys that the bad boys and girls can't have?
Me: umm..sure. That sounds like a good idea.
Jess: Does Erica get toys?
Me: Yes. She's been a good baby.
Jess: But mommy, babies don't need toys.
Me: Jessica, please go back to sleep.
Jess: Mommy can we sing Christmas songs?
Me: Would it stop you if I said no?
Jess: "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer....."

And we proceeded with at least five rounds each of Rudolph, O Christmas Tree, and Up on the House Top.

It didn't last for too terribly long, but somewhere along I 20 East I found my Christmas spirit.

Christmas Trip

Yes, I have truly passed into the realm of "she's outtta her mind". I left South Carolina on Friday evening about 6:30 pm and pulled into my mother's drive in Hallsville, TX about 10:30 Saturday morning. I was worried about making the trip alone with both girls, but driving at night was the ng>BEST idea. My little piglet fell asleep before we got a mile from home, riding backward facing as she should. My big bug-a-boo watched movies on her DVD and talked to me until about 10:30 or so. THen she ever so helpfully woke about midnight and talked and sang to me non stop until about 2:30 in the morning. We made up Christmas songs and stories that I can't even remember. I also told her the story of Hansel and Greta -- except with Dora and Deigo. She thinks I'm the greatest story teller in the world. And did you k now that Santa and Ms. Claus are brother and sister, yet still the mommy and daddy of all the elves?? Yep, truly a deep southern family simply transplanted to the North Pole.

THe trip back aught to be interesting. As is, David is supposed to fly back with the piglet, while bug and I drive back hauling a trailer full of trivials. But, it may come about the we switch children and I drive back with the baby. Not sure which would be easier. The plane ticket is currently in Erica's name -- cant imagine i should be a big deal to swap out children as neither of them shows ID any how. But, I'll call and ask the airlines.

Below are our Christmas Pictures. We are calling this "Grumpy Christmas". Hopefully I'll get some smiles while we are here visiting.Erica2007xmas

Month Late - Content Short

Well, here is Thanksgiving time and I'm just getting around to posting about Halloween. I really don't know how that happens. Truly, I sit down to write something and then I get distracted by something else. Something else like, laundry or dishes or grocery run -- you know - the mundane things in life.

SO here are the girls on Halloween evening. Dsc02021

We went to the mall with PaPa and Grandma Sylvia. Erica seemed to enjoy looking around and seeing everything. We did not beg for candy for her. As far as I'm concerned, if they can't walk themselves then they really shouldn't be getting the candy. Jessica did pretty well about saying "trick or treat" and "thank you". Not sure one can tell, but she wore her little red cowboy boots with her Snow White costume. That's my "Cowboy Princess" ya'll.

I was amused to see that Jess has figured out that it is all about the loot. She politely said "thank you" most of the time -- but not until she looked in her bag to see what had been given to her. We stayed for about an hour -- which was really as long as any sane person can stand. And they were exhausted getting home.

Dsc02032

Now, on a slightly side note, I have an issue with Halloween Costumes. Particularly with the whole "Slutification" of Halloween. I saw way too many teenagers out. that's fine, I can get passed that. But when you're coming to the mall, I really don't need to see the naughty nurse, or pillaged pirate wench or sexy bo peep. And what I find worse is that the costumes are sold as sort of trashy. It's one thing to modify or make up your own, but actually selling the costumes ready to wear already lloking like some Cartoon Fantasy Porn--- EEK.

Okay, I'm just old. And maybe jealous that I can't get away with wearing anything like that.

Halloween

Here it is, one of my favorite times of year. Kids all dressed up, cute or scary. Adults getting dressed up to basically relive being a kid. And candy. Lots of candy everywhere. Kids knocking on doors asking for candy. And it's expected, not considered begging.

Jessica is going to be a fairy and Erica a pumpkin.

Okay, so maybe it's just an excuse to dree them up all cute and silly and take pictures. I can live with that too.
